What is Turmeric Milk

Turmeric milk, also known as Manjal Paal in Tamil, derives its name from the Tamil language, where "Manjal" refers to the vibrant color of turmeric and "Paal" means milk. This traditional beverage holds roots dating back nearly 4000 years to the ayurvedic culture in India.

Benefits of Golden Milk

Golden milk, also known as Turmeric latte, is a caffeine-free beverage that can be savored at any time of the day. In Asian countries, it's a tradition to enjoy golden milk before bedtime, as it is believed to promote better sleep. The combination of turmeric and ginger in this drink is rich in antioxidants, renowned for their anti-inflammatory properties, immune-boosting effects, digestive benefits, and ability to enhance gut health naturally. Incorporate this wholesome drink into your daily routine for a soothing and nourishing experience.

Does Turmeric Need Black Pepper and Milk (Fat)?

Medical research has revealed that combining turmeric with black pepper can significantly enhance its bioavailability by up to 2000%. Research suggests that curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, is fat-soluble, further boosting absorption. Additionally, studies have demonstrated that cardamom and cinnamon offer numerous health benefits, in addition to imparting a delightful taste and aroma to the drink. Incorporating these spices into your golden milk not only improves its flavor but also maximizes its health-promoting properties.

Method 1:

Ingredients:

Turmeric Blend:

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh organic turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh organic ginger
  • 1 pinch of organic ground pepper
  • 1 pinch of organic ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of organic ground cardamom
  • 1 cup unsweetened Almond milk / coconut milk / Dairy or vegan milk of your choice
  • 3/4 (or) 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup or honey or dates (optional)

Directions:

  1. In a blender, combine either the mixture of turmeric, ginger, pepper, cinnamon, and cardamom, or 1/2 teaspoon of Turmeric Blend, along with milk and maple syrup. Blend on high speed for approximately 1 minute until smooth.
  2. Next, transfer the mixture into a small saucepan and place it on medium-high heat. Continuously whisk the mixture until it becomes steaming hot.
  3. Once hot, carefully transfer the turmeric latte into a mug. If necessary, strain the latte while pouring it into the mug to remove any remaining particles.
